Susan asks…
Does anyone have any good birthday present ideas for a teen girl?
She is very into eco–friendly stuff. Shes kind of “scene”, she likes a lot of different bands that arent what she calls main stream. She is pretty and is into clothes i dont know how to describe her style though.
The Expert answers:
This reminds me of myself, and if you have any vintage stores around, see if you can find something in there or if they have gift cards. Another thing is hot topic. They have a bunch of band T-shirts there and “scene” stuff.
Thomas asks…
how about this solution for fusing capitalism and communism?
ok we let the free market and housing market be free, but use the government to give or sell products very low to people who make under and barely above the poverty line?
like eco–friendly cars, houses, clothes that look sophisticated and good looking, internet laptops with free college courses on it, eco friendly light bulbs, etc. thsoe are the only good things I can think of right now.
who will make these products? the regular companies that build them.
some will be donated by the companies, some will be bought by the government. the government will sell it cheaper so they wont rly be making money. but the meaning is more important than making money.
idk how tax payers would fit in this, but I’d make it easy on them.
The Expert answers:
We already have part of this. It’s called “the welfare state” and exists without any constitutional authority. Tell me the one thing the federal government has ever successfully taken over from the private sector that leads you to believe this would work. Running resale stores to benefit low paid people is NOT a job of the federal government. Tax payers, as always, would be forced to pick up the tab for this largess. Higher taxes would be stolen from the few people who wold still work. You think companies will just “donate” their products? Good luck with that plan. Companies are in business to make a profit, not to support charities.
Lizzie asks…

Since its summer, you must wear something not too hot. Why not pair it with a short shorts? Or a floral skirt? That would be awesome. Wear a flip flops of course.

John asks…
does anyone have any good ideas for how to advertise/market/promote a new independent childrens clothes shop?
the shop has been open for 6 months.it caters for children from 0-6 yrs
it is located in a suburb of New York City (Long island/Queens border)
ads in local papers have had limited success
the shop is tastefully laid out and decorated(boutique style)
it is mostly aimed at the high end of the market but is by no means ridiculously exspensive.
most of the clothes we stock are from funky/independent US suppliers, not well known brands.they are very good quality.
alot of the clothes are from eco friendly sources (organic cotton, fairtrade etc)
the main competition is mainly from the large retailers in the local shopping mall. there is no other independent childrens clothes store in the area.
the reaction from those who do call in is very positive but at the moment, because we are new,we are just trying to get more people in the door,if only to have a look.
we don’t have a big budget for marketing,so if any one has any ideas which have worked i would be very grateful
