Thomas asks…
how do you suggest i move my clothes?
i’m moving on wednesday, and my room is far from packed up. my clothes are spread out all over the floor and i dont know how i’m going to move them. i put the dirty clothes in a “dirty” garbage bag, and i have a “clean” garbage bag. (the washing machines are at the new house)…i also have boxes to move the clothes in but i’m looking for a more eco friendly, easier way to move them all..thankyou!

More eco-friendly? The most eco-friendly way of moving them is to grab an armful and walk to your new place with them, but I don’t think you’d really want to do that uness you’re moving less than a block away. Put the clothes in big garbage bags or in boxes, move them, and re-use the bags or boxes or recycle them.

Porcelain, plastic or aluminum washing machine drum?
We’re looking at a new clothes washer this weekend (woo-hoo!) ;)Considering the wear and tear on clothes, the durability of the drum (life expectancy), and “eco–friendly” (not dispensing toxins onto the clothes), which one is the best to go with?
LOL, I don’t know if I’ll ENJOY doing laundry from here on out, but I’m hoping it will make it less of a hassle! 🙂

I like the whirlpool stuff that’s out there. I would stay away from a plastic tub, even if it’s over metal. Just look at a shower or dishwasher rack to see why. Go with porcelain, or stainless steel, they are proven to stand the test of time. If you are looking for a front loader, whirlpool duets are good. And whirlpools top loaders are good also. They last a long time, my sisters family got 15 years out of hers, with a family of seven. Ours with just the two of us, is going on 10. And neither of us has had any major repairs. I just “rebuilt” our dryer because it started to squeak when it ran. Whirlpool makes a kit to fix it for just $30.00. The kit came with fantastic instructions and all of the parts and i was able to do it in just over an hour. It runs like new again. I think that whirlpool is consumer friendly and you can get parts for them from your local sears parts store or appliance parts store. Good luck, and does this mean that you will like doing laundry now? Lol!
Nancy asks…

I’m 13 and have gone quite eco friendly. i want to start using toiletries and makeup that are not tested on animals and clothes and things which are good for the environment and animals. with no harsh chemicals. can you make sure they are available in the uk cos that’s where i live.

Do you make your own cleaning product?
My son is 6 months old and I have decided to start using non-toxic cleaning products for everything from washing clothes to household cleaners. I would normally just go a buy eco–friendly ones however where I live they are not available to me.
Could you tell me what you use, how you make them (possibly with measures) and are you satisfied with the results. Are you sure that they really kill all the germs that chemical detergent do?
Thank you so much in advance.

I use my own cleaning products for everything except the tub…..I just can’t get it clean enough.
I use a 1/4 vinegar to 3/4 water with a drop or two or dishwashing liquid in a spray bottle for the kitchen and bathroom
1/4 vinegar and 3/4 water in a bucket for dusting the woodwork and general dusting
I mop with vinegar and water and a drop or two of dishwashing liquid.
Vinegar/water 1/2 1/2 for windows
I have read to sprinkle baking soda in the tub and use it…..but it doesn’t work for me. I personally use a natural bathtub cleaner from Wal Mart.
