Your Questions About Green Living

Do Christians believe it is Gods will for a oil pipeline to be built in Alaska?

Are they sure God isn’t in favor of alternative energies?
sorry, natural gas

Do you think we will ever get alternative feul?

http://www.boston.com/news/nation/gallery/251007war_costs?pg=5

With the amount of money that we have spent on the Iraq war, we could have replaced every car on the road with an ethanol powered car…nine times over. Think of that, we could almost cure our addiction to oil. Of course there would still be planes and helicopters that need oil, but most of the oil used in the U.S. is by cars.

And sooner or later, the oil will run out on earth, it is only a finite material. Do you think we will ever get another source of energy?

The Expert answers:

Eventualluy, but it will come kicking and screaming

Sandra asks…

Hey Liberals did you know that the Koch brothers are against Natural Gas as energy?

If you are looking for a reason to support Natural Gas I say this is a damn good one. Its also mainly bipartisan unless the politician is paid off by a Koch Brother.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-07-12/pickens-losing-to-koch-in-billionaires-fight-over-natural-gas-subsidies.html

I am not invested in anything right now. The market is way to risky but Natural Gas can just pave the way to alternative fuels.
Mother I am just trying to show that Natural Gas will put us on the road to alternative energy and help build jobs we need right now. Not 100 years in the future.
axe not only that but it will provide plenty of jobs all over the place. We will become energy independent etc.

The Expert answers:

Natural gas in the u.s.a is a homegrown energy that will help us immensely in the near and far future, corporate types would be against it if their investments are else where (tea party), it also provides solid employment at very good wages for those in the industry.

Mark asks…

Cold or hot, how do you like your wars?

Whether you believe in reality and accept the science behind global warming or are a climate denier, do you agree that switching to alternative non-fossil fuel energies to prevent future wars is a good idea?

Wouldn’t it be best to cut off a problem at the knees before it happens by making the oil industry obsolete?

The Expert answers:

Cap and trade is a boondoggle.  It’s a full-employment program for lawyers, accountants and lobbyists to get permits for free while others have to pay, and put the other guy’s stuff under a cap while keeping your own out.  What we need is a general tax on carbon (global) and another tax on oil (domestic).

There really are two camps here, isolated by the information sources they trust.  The “there is no AGW” camp is getting its news from the same outlets which don’t want to admit there are any other reasons to get off of oil (and coal), so they say “there’s plenty”.  Meanwhile, people in the actual oil industry are warning that the lack of investment caused by the credit crunch is going to cause serious supply problems, because the natural decline rate of mature oil fields is about 10% per year and you need continuous work to offset that.

The stuff about ANWR, the Bakken shale and such are similarly silly.  The USA is still importing over 12 million barrels/day of oil.  The USGS says that there may be – MAY be – a 5% chance that ANWR could produce 1.6 million bbl/day, but its peak production is more likely around 900,000 bbl/day.  The estimated 10 billion barrels of reserves mean it could only produce that much for about 27 years; it’s a long way from a full or permanent solution to anything.

Who are you going to believe:  people in the oil industry and the United States Geological Survey, or ideologues on talk radio?

BTW, the USA consumes 10 billion barrels of oil in a bit over 500 days.  That’s less than 18 months.  The USA also has about 3% of world oil reserves, which is not surprising as it was the first territory to be intensively explored and produced; of course we ran out first!

The 2003 Iraq war was fought over oil, specifically to get the oil fields of Iraq under control of US companies.  It didn’t work.  Trying again HARDER will just fail HARDER.

Even if AGW isn’t true, there will still be wars if we don’t stop burning oil and coal.  The acidification of the oceans from CO2 is already eating into food chains.  As people’s livelihoods die off, they will either try to migrate (a la Zimbabweans) or steal (a la Somalis) to make a living.

We need to stop using oil, period.  I would suggest starting with a graduated annual tax on gas-guzzlers and an escalating tax on fuel.  When people crush their Hummers because they aren’t worth the taxes, all the parking meters have power cords and every road has bike lanes, we’ll be there.

Vote For Paris! Hilton ‘Enters’ Election Race With Spoof Ad

LOS ANGELES, Aug 5, 2008 (AFP) – Paris Hilton threw her hat into the US presidential race, declaring her desire to campaign against “that wrinkly white-haired guy” and vowing to paint the White House pink if elected.

The blond socialite responded to Republican candidate John McCain’s controversial use of her image in a campaign television spot last week with a spoof ad posted on the website Funnyordie.com.

In the ad, the 27-year-old appears reclining on a sun lounger beside a swimming pool, dressed only in a skimpy leopard-print bathing costume.

“Hey America, I’m Paris Hilton and I’m a celebrity too,” Hilton declares breezily. “Only I’m not from the olden days and I’m not promising change like that other guy. I’m just hot!

“But then that wrinkly white-haired guy used me in his campaign ad, which I guess means I’m running for president. So thanks for the endorsement white-haired dude, and I want America to know I’m, like, totally ready to lead.”

Hilton then offers an alternative US energy strategy, suggesting that she plans to combine elements from McCain and Democratic rival Barack Obama’s policy platforms.

“We can do limited offshore drilling with strict environmental oversight while creating tax incentives to get Detroit making hybrid and electric cars. … Energy crisis solved, I’ll see you at the debates, bitches!”

Hilton then signs off by declaring that she is now mulling her choices for vice president. “I’m thinking Rihanna,” she said, referring to the singer-songwriter.

“I’ll see you at the White House,” Hilton adds. “Oh, and I might paint it pink. Bye!”

Last week’s McCain ad was condemned by Hilton’s mother Kathy, who called it as a waste of money and time on Sunday.
