Daniel asks…
What do Bush and the House Republicans have against Alternative Energy?
House shifts $16 billion toward renewable energy!
Republicans called it a “no-energy bill” because it lacks new drilling incentives, and they derided the new emphasis on renewables as “green pork.” The White House threatened to veto the bill on concerns that it could boost energy prices.
Didn’t Bush say that the USA is addicted to oil and needs to find alternate energy sources? Or was he just refering to ethanol?

Well, Bush admits that America is addicted to fossil fuels but a pusher doesn’t want the addict cured of the addiction.

The Catastrophe economy… Capitalism and the endless “Bad News” cycle?
Now that Capitalism/Corporatism has become the dominant world economy… we seem to have a steady stream of disaster. Let me explain..
Japan… the fact is Nuclear power is not safe or clean.. Earthquakes happen. This just as easily could have happened in California or Toronto or anywhere else.. The energy Companies and their iron grip on public opinion have done everything it can for 40 years to stop “Alternative energy” from moving forward… That is “Corporatism” dominating the power landscape.
We all know that Industry gets rid of competing industry whenever it can… that’s an accepted form of Capitalist Fascism… So it seems we are stuck with this now, which is to say we can expect Oil Spills, Political unrest, Nuclear Disasters, Wars, Suffering on genocidal levels to continue as long as we indulge in the exploits of “absolute” wealth and power which is what the current form of global capital is creating…
Instead of efforts to equalize living standards, the exact opposite is taking place.
Infinite Growth vs Finite resource is unsustainable without a shrinking of the population…
is that the plan ?
Really I’m the Epitome of ignorance? And here I thought I was just a moderately intelligent person with a question about a larger issue… shoot.
Thanks for telling me.

– Japan… The fact is Nuclear power is not safe or clean
Umm. Actually the events go along way to proving that nuclear power is clean and safe. Consider that forty year old plants were hit with an earthquake five times the strength they were designed for and yet they still shut down safely. The generators came on like they were supposed to when grid power was cut. Then the tsunami hit and the generators were wiped out. However, the battery backup still worked for the designed eight hours. The problem happened when no new generators could be put in. Even so the problems have been minimal–media scare mongering for ratings not withstanding.
Here is an informative article describing the situation:

Does America’s economy really affect the world?
Here in America, our news talks about how our current economic woes has brought down the markets all over the world. How does our economy affect the people of Australia? Do you feel the American downturn has affected Australia? It was our greedy bankers that made bad loans on real estate, it’s our oil greedy President who hasn’t supported alternative energy. I really don’t understand how this works and was wondering how the people of Australia feel about this statement.

I’m in the UK but the market in the US has had a massive effect on our financial situation here, When US mortgage lenders lent money to NINJA’s (No Income No Job, No Assets) on property of non standard constuction (Trailer Park type homes) they knew it was a risk, however a lot of this debt was sold off to other financial institutions around the world, when interest rates started to rise and people started to default on their borrowing and repossesions rose, UK banks found that the only assets that they had were on unmortgagble properties, which leaves them with a lot of bad debt, this in turn has a direct effect on the banks ability to lend to it’s Uk customers, and as each financial institution does/did not know how much bad debt each one of them had it limits the flow of money between them and seizes up the system, so thats why there has been the problems with Northern Rock, HBOS and Bradford and Bingley.
Ive not heard on our news about Australia being in trouble but certainly, Iceland, Germany and some banks in Italy so far.
If we hadnt had Tony Blair kissing George Bush’s Ass for 10 years then maybe the UK wouldn’t be in such a bad way now!
Vote well next month USA please!!

Why is Obama rushing to ban drilling in Utah? Does he realize our economy runs on oil?
He must have enjoyed $4 gasoline this summer. With alternative energies at least 10 years off, what is this guy thinking???

I feel left out all the time?
Hello, I’m a 17 year old Junior attending high school. I am the complete opposite of other guys in my class. I feel like they all have control over their lives, while I don’t. I feel that everyone else has something to do every weekend or day off, and I am stuck at home and play Call of Duty, or sit in front of some other screen from the time I get home from school (after homework of course), until bedtime. I can’t relate to other guys because our hobbies and interests don’t match. I love computers and computer hardware, and news about new technology and alternative energy and stuff like that, etc. Whenever I try to talk to someone about it, they give me the notion that they don’t care and that I am “too smart for them”. Lately I have felt that no one cares what I have to say. All the other guys talk about is sports, or Fantasy whatever. I feel that my problem is that I am too logical about things and I don’t want to have fun, but “I do want to have fun”. Many things other than technology bore me to death. Even my few close friends, I don’t find hanging out with them any fun. After a while they stopped calling me or texting me to hang out. Now the only time I feel like I socialize with other kids is by doing school work in class, which is the only place I feel comfortable socializing. Also, other people always want to work with me just because I am one of thr most resourceful and intelligent students in my class. After all, I get straight A’s. I am also about to attain the rank of Eagle in the BSA. Does this mean I have no self confidence outside of the classroom/work? Is my personality poor?
Also I have felt lately that all everyone else is dating or are about to start a relationship with someone. My luck in the past with girls has not been good with misunderstandings, awkward moments, and sadly broken friendships :(. (http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Alf9xqlsbnIRwwi1EBcQjC_sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20100525132004AAr6On7) one of my old questions.
The girl mentioned in that question I was friends with for several years, but when I asked her out, all hell broke loose and we haven’t spoken to each other in 7 months (LITERALLY).
I am too scared to ask out any more girls after what happened. She reacted so badly that I feel like I will never have any confidence again. One by one, potential girlfriends are picked off bu othere guys, and the only ones left are undesireable (not becuase of looks but because they are shallow) or just dint want a relationship right now (i respect and understand that). I have one girl “friend” that I feel comfortable talking to, but even with that I barely see her enough anymore to make any ground with her. She has 3 AP classes and all honors class, and is almost always up until 3 in the morning finishing homework ( I don’t know how she does it but she does it somehow).
In the end I feel like no one can relate to me or actually enjoys speaking with me other than teachers or adults. I am too “smart” for the normal crowd, and I am too “un-involved” for the smarter, responsible crowd ( the good kids, like my one girl friend, used to be two…. 🙁 ). I feel, left out.
Help?
The Expert answers:
You know, I was never so deeply into hardware but my interests were in language and grammar. I felt so left out. I WAS left out. All the groups saying you’re too smart for them, people snickering?
I was lucky because I had a close knit group of friends who didn’t care that I loved English and History instead of other stuff. The point is that if you start acting like a friend, people will become your friends. It all starts from you. If you’re not okay with yourself yet, no one else will be either. If you like something someone else likes as well, go and talk about that.
But then again, it’s hard. When you really love something, that’s what you love.
You can’t have everything, but doesn’t anyone there in your school like programming?
No one likes games? No one likes computers?
Just don’t be too techy. I wish I had more advise for you but I went through the same thing, especially on the dating, even though my trouble was with boys.
Keep your chin up. And keep doing what you like to do.
Eventually you’ll meet people who like you because you like programing and hardware.
(BTW, with the girl with the AP classes, try texting, messaging, or giving a small gift, like an eraser, to make her laugh!)
