Eco-friendly flip-flop shoes? Ponder this…?
Which is the more eco–friendly alternative:
1) Buy a pair of “green” flip flops (made of hemp and other organic materials) via internet order (delivered via UPS to residence) for $29, or
2) Buy a pair of synthetic flip flops from the local Old Navy outlet for $6 and donate $23 to an eco-charity or use it to buy $23 worth of carbon offsets?
The Expert answers:
It’s 2 by a wide margin.
The synthetics sequester carbon because polymers are hydrocarbon based. They will last far longer than the hemp and required less energy to produce.
Like bio fuels hemp requires burning of carbon based fuels as a part of the cultivation process.
Transportation is just slightly in favor of the synthetics because bulk is more energy efficient than the individual shipping by UPS. Still you are driving to the store.
Packaging is another plus for the synthetics. If the hemp come in kraft paper corrugated box that is very eco non friendly.
The buying carbon offsets or donating to an eco charity puts the synthetics way, way, way over the top

The Eco-friendly shoe line of Fergie?
Fergie is working currently with an eco–friendly shoe line? a reality or a teaser?
http://www.celebrityclothingline.com/
The Expert answers:
I think we should give Fergie a chance to prove herself. She’s indeed has a great fashion taste, i think she can make a trendy shoe line, but for being an eco-friendly, well, we’ll just have to wait for it.

Eco-friendly shopping in and around New York City/New Jersey?
Hello. I’m interested in buying eco–friendly shoes, as well as eco–friendly clothing. (But shoes are a higher priority right now.) I don’t like the idea of ordering shoes online, since I think it’s important to try them on first. And my online research hasn’t yielded any especially useful information. Does anybody know of good places in the tri-state area to shop for these items? Any information about your experiences at these shops (quality of products, prices, service, etc) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I wasn’t expecting many answers, but I did on the other hand think I’d get more than one. I’m starting to think that I should have posted this under a different category…
