Thomas asks…
Can anyone recommend a GOOD eco-friendly fabric conditioner?
I’ve tried Ecover but it doesn’t really work, and I tried Bio-D which worked well but left the clothes smelling weird!
The Expert answers:
Sorry, but most “eco-friendly” products are scams.
Get yourself some “Tide”.
Sandra asks…
which of these things are more eco friendly?
1, Is it more eco friendly to wear an extra layer of clothing, and heat the house less, or is it more eco friendly to heat more, and use less clothing? Clothing takes resources to produce, transport, sell, launder and and such? FYI, I buy about 10 new articles of clothing a month, and retire just as many to the landfill to stay “in the new”
2: Is it more eco friendly to use paper billing, and have trees cut down, fuel burned to transport the bills to my mailbox, and then using the same fossil fuels to get the bill back to the company, or is it more eco friendly to power up the computer with electricity (35% from neuclear), and (15% from renewable) in my area, and create CO2, and neuclear waste which is a powerful pollutant called Plutonium. So is paper billing or paperless billing more eco fiendly?
3: Is it more eco friendly to shut off the engine when waiting for someone, or at a light dor an extended period, or is it more eco friendly to avoid restarting, and polluting durrring the restart?
4: Is using a Solar-Thermal water heater really more eco friendly than using an electric one, (the solar thermal system uses iron ore to make the steel pipes, and dark asphalt shingle like stuff to make the case (which is petrleum based), is this system actually more eco friendly than using even a plane old coal fired water heater?
5: Is it more eco friendly to buy RL/Polo brand clothing from stores like Dillards, or is it more eco friendly to buy from smaller stores like Aero, and such.
6: Is it more eco friendly to drive, ride a train, or fly on an airplane for long distance trips?
7: Is light rail, bus, or auto really the greenest transit within cities, list in order of greenness?
8: Is it more eco friendly to attend a concert from a local band, or a concert of a traveling band?
9: Is it more eco friendly to attend a school play or the circus?
10: Do any “solar thermal” systems like they have in a lot of downtown buildings which make hot water, and then use it to heat buildings, and for water heating, and such actually help reduce emmissions, or are more emmissions used to make them?
11: can an electric blanket protect the environment like people say it can save energy when it actually uses it?
The Expert answers:
1)If you were to stop buying new clothes you could afford to heat your house.
2)Paperless by far
3)depends on how long you are waiting. For safety reasons it is unwise to turn the car off at lights. Furthermore it is hard on the engine and will cause failures sooner than if you used it as intended which cause parts to be produced………..
4) A solar thermal system that replaces a average homes electric hot water or gas fired is equivalent to taking an SUV off the road for 40,000 miles each year. With a life span of 20 to 30 years its positive impact far outweighs the footprint to produce. Most water heaters last only 10 years
5) IDK
6) Train drive fly in that order
7) you have the order correct
8) local band but I would prefer to see U2 than Johnny and the Scrubs
9) school play but the circus is much funner
10) see # 4 and it is not even close a solar thermal system is one of the best available technology for renewable energy
11) If you use it to offset your heating your house yes. If not no.
Note electric heat is 100 percent efficient. It is not environmentally or economically efficient compared to other options in many cases but not all
Steven asks…
those eco friendly laundry balls?
are they for real?
also, is it ok to was clothes with simply water?
The Expert answers:
Not very useful. And yes, you can wash your clothes with plain water, but you’ll soon find they’re getting dirtier and the clothes will start to smell bad because there is no surfactant working on the soiling.
Ruth asks…
What should i name my clothing store?
My fictional clothing label is fresh, simple, and clean cut without lacking class. We sell women’s attire marking around 75 dollars for our jeans. Our jeans are our main product. We have all contemporary styles like jeggings, and all clothes are eco–friendly. I don’t what to name it after myself.
Name ideas desperately need!
thanks 🙂
xx
The Expert answers:
You could call it Fresh! It has a ring to it, it’s simple and clean.. I think it would be a cool name for a clothing label.
If I think of anything else I will edit. 🙂
Mandy asks…

i’m doing a editorial on how people in our country can be more eco friendly.
