Your Questions About Green Living

Joseph asks…

Is US occupation in the middle east for control of energy to thwart China?

News from various alternative media suggests that we have crossed the peak oil and the economic troubles are just the beginning of the things to come. It is very clear US occupation and wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan has nothing to do with 9/11 or so called terrorist outfits or WMD or “people who hate our freedom & liberty”. In a way its to thwart China from consuming the depleting non-renewable energy resources in central Asia and middle east. Building up of economic warfare with China in the recent times (accusing China of currency manipulation, Google security fiasco), covert operations in Iran to overthrow the government, activities in Georgia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, calling Vietnam a strategic Allie are further indicators of US ambition to control China sphere of influence over energy resources.

The Expert answers:

I think the present is fluid in that regard. In the past what you’ve described probably wasn’t true, or was less true. Since Nixon the US has gradually developed economic dependence on China and antipathy in the Middle East. After the USSR broke up and the people for whom the Vietnam War was ‘the big event of out lives’ began dying off and the Chinese economic dependence syndrome became an obvious threat what you’ve described might have gained a larger piece of the motivational picture.

But the China Sea’s the place to watch. Not Iran, not the Med. The China Sea and the Koreas.

That’s where long overdue things can happen quickly and in an environment where they can’t slide out of control most likely

Sharon asks…

Why exactly are Republicans against alternate energy sources?

Not talking about those who get federal subsidies like oil and coal does….I am talking about private companies investing private money into alternate energy research and products.

Even the Military is using alternate energy!

Okay Military is a bad example. It still doesn’t explain the reason why? The oil and coal will run out especially since there is greater demand globally and we are selling it to them. Not to mention, oil and coal WILL run out, why so against a plan B for when that happens?
Here you go…Republicans are against Alternate Energy.

One would think that they are against companies making a profit or even restricting free enterprise.

The Expert answers:

Because they lower the profit margin for the oil and coal companies.

Thomas asks…

Why is the GOP against alternative energy?

http://news.yahoo.com/gop-says-energy-dept-cut-corners-lend-az-003359586–abc-news.html

I can understand a rational person not being for alternative energy. After all, it may never be cheaper than pumping fossil fuels out and converting them to useful work; especially if the effects of man made CO2 emissions are not factored into the price of said fossil fuels. Who knows, maybe all we need to do is rigorously increase the efficiency of the processes that we employ to derive useful work from fossil fuel to drastically reduce CO2 emissions (and thus, price of energy).

My question, though, is why the witch hunt? Why be against the PV technology. Seriously, they are talking about a 1.6 billion dollar loan. That is pennies compared to the size of our national debt. That aside, maybe a combination of alternative energy sources will work! Why is the GOP wasting time nit-picking whether a solar tracking system is “innovative”?

The Expert answers:

The GOP has substantial investments in the oil industry and are trying to protect their personal financial interests.

Ken asks…

Why do Republicans oppose alternative energy like this?

Solar power station in Spain works at night.
A unique thermosolar power station in southern Spain can shrug off cloudy days: energy stored when the sun shines lets it produce electricity even during the night.

If Obama tried to build this in the USA, Republicans would attack him, degrade him, and say he is trying to turn us into a socialist Europe. They would attack him for not drilling more oil and natural gas, although oil and natural gas drilling are at 30 year highs.

Question:
Why are Republicans against this kind of energy?

The Expert answers:

It is amazing how much conservatives seem to NOT know about history and economics. I’ve seen several answers about not wanting government money tossed down ratholes, or how the technology has to become economically viable first. You people have forgotten so much. Two words: space race.

Computers wouldn’t be anything like they are today without the government’s investment in the space race and DARPA. Government money funded the technology until it advanced far enough to become economically viable.

How many other technologies did the space race, funded by our government, develop? New materials, new synthetics, new processes, etc. Private industry and profit motives didn’t do it. Government money and public willpower did it. And as a result we dominated the world for years.

We could do that again. But conservatives apparently hate America and want us to trail behind the rest of the world. Like Germany, which gets about 20% of its national energy by solar (and they, due to latitude, get less sun than we do).

Conservatives: the anti-Americans.

Laura asks…

Great News! W/ Gas Prices Climbing Obama is Going to Invest Our Money in Some Alternative Fuel Sources. Thank?

God we will soon have cheaper ways to energy. Those Idiots in the Private Sector are to stupid to invest in these things that’s there problem when Our Investment starts paying off. Not to say Bush wasn’t smart also. He had the foresight to invest in Ethanol for us too.
I’m just thankful for our leaders paving the way for us.

The Expert answers:

A broke government leading us into alternative energy .This from the same people who can’t put together a budget or one money making green investment. That expands ethanol use that has raised the price of corn from 2.00 to 6.00 a bushel causing food prices to go up all over the world.BHO is such a worthless joke im suprised he’s running.
