Your Questions About Green Living

Donna asks…

renewable energy science help!?

4 school we have 2 choose a remote village in the world and invent (but not buikd) a device/machine using renewable energy sources in some way to help the village. any ideas on a village and what i could do? thanx! btw i cant do savann tabak, haiti, as my friends doing it. im really dumb at science! thanx!

The Expert answers:

I would go with methane, its free and easy to utilize. You’d be best to choose a village with lots of greenery and animal potential. Somewhere in south east asia maybe.

Have a look at this and let your imagination do the rest. ( I want to recycle jet engines from old airplanes and use them to generate electricity from methane)

Ruth asks…

Renewable energy, All UK Pub toilets, distilled pee, to recover all Uk alchohol for recycling or petrol?

And all world alchohol too. Alchohol is not absorbed by the body, all of it comes out in the pee, thats why you get dehydration and hangovers. So we connect all the towns pub pee toilets up and distill it to recoup the alchohol, put it back into the drinks, to save all that energy brewing/distilling it in the first place! nice one ha. or just process it to run as alchohol petrol replacement in vehicle engines. Football grounds, homes, and hotels, and events can provide their own heating. etc. If anyone patents this idea, we’ll go 1/3rds, ie you, yahoo, and me.

Jenny asks…

Will civilized countries develop renewable energy sources…”?

voluntarily to avoid world bankruptcy and famine, or will we wait until there is no more oil and we experience the resulting devastation and ultimate total world war?

The Expert answers:

Trust me buddy even if there was a breakthrough, it would be stiffled and shelved as ‘non viable’ or ‘non panacea’..Put sensationalsim aside and realise that no oil baron or energy conglomerate CEO will ever be ‘pro renewable energy’ at least not while vast fossil fuel deposits remain a goldmine worth billions of dollars. With the world switching to solar, wind or hydrogen fuel substitutes all that wealth would be worth a zilch .Human greed will most likely mean that the latter scenario in your statement is more likely

Ken asks…

How much do you think the oil industry lobbies the government for NASA?

Should we be wasting a finite energy resource while simultaneously blowing inconceivable amounts of money simply to find out what a comet is made of? Wouldn’t a better use of that talent and money be in developing renewable energy sources, fighting world hunger and disease, and solving the huge problem of our rapidly dwindling supply of fresh water on this planet?

The Expert answers:

I agree with you, unfortunately the oil industry has a lot of money and well you know how that goes. Currently there are several research and development programs going on relating to alternative energy sources. Examples are Methane, ethanol, and hydrogen. Keep you fingers crossed that one of these experimental energy resources hits pay dirt.

Carol asks…

what energy mix should we pursue in the future ?

renewable or non renewable energy? taking into account the expense..
what do you think would help our world,

The Expert answers:

Every energy option is absolutely necessary, including coal and oil. Our modern technology is totally dependent on energy and with China, India and other countries on track to develop to the same extent as Europe and America, the world will need MUCH more energy. And when the oil and coal run out, we need to have the alternatives already running.
